Job Description:

 

Looking for a Quality Engineer for a 3 month/40 hours per week contract in Culpeper, VA. In this role you will provide imaginative, thorough and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems through the application of Quality Engineering disciplines and tools. Integrate Lean Manufacturing. practices into Inspection processes (i.e. poke yoke, waste reduction, Build Quality In, etc.).

 

Job Core Responsibilities:

  • 50% of time - Provides Quality Engineering direction to the factory operators and inspectors. This includes, but is not limited to: Requirements interpretation. Ensures operators and inspectors have the correct understanding of engineering drawing implementation through manufacturing planning instructions.
  • Requirements flow down: Ensure program design and process documents for area of responsibility include program quality requirements and that products are inspectable. Planning review and approval. Independently reviews manufacturing planning to ensure appropriate design engineering requirements implementation, material traceability maintenance, quality record maintenance and operator and inspector sign-offs. Designates inspection/verification needs. Process Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (PFMEA).
  • Leads effort to quantify and reduce risk using this quality tool and is considered the process expert. 
  • Process mistake proofing/improvement.
  • Actively participates in improvement teams to reduce risk through the application of mistake proofing principles. 
  • Inspects method development and implementation. Develops, implements and monitors new or existing inspection methods to ensure products meet stated engineering requirements.
  • Generate and execute FAIs – First Article Inspection Plans
  • Program and company procedural compliance.
  • Ensures compliance to all quality system requirements through a thorough knowledge of documented requirements. 
  • Process auditing: Independently conducts process audits to ensure processes are following manufacturing planning, program requirements and enterprise level command media. 
  • 20% of time - Actively participates in the Material Review Board, including segregation and control of nonconforming hardware to preclude inadvertent processing, disposition nonconforming hardware, preparing for and conducting board meetings, and implementing disposition decisions.
  • 20% of time - Drives corrective and preventive action to ensure continual improvement. Investigates and determines root causes of problems. Develops and implements corrective and preventive actions.
  • 10% of time - Manages other projects as assigned. Provides imaginative, thorough and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems through the application of quality engineering disciplines and tools.

 

Requirements:

 

  • Must have experience in Aerospace.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline and five (5) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must have experience with AS9100.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to operate in a team environment.
  • Computer skills sufficient to generate basic reports and analyze data using MS EXCEL, MS PowerPoint, and MS WORD software.
  • Must be proactive and have demonstrated problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship)
  • Must be physically cable of working in an Operations environment including walking, using stairs and maneuvering in tight quarters.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with solid rocket component fabrication, electro-mechanical parts assembly and Final Assembly and Check-out and/or Avionics.
  • ASQ certifications are a plus.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to operate in a team environment.
  • Experience implementing cost-effective, LEAN inspection/verification methods or Key Characteristics (ref AS9103).
